CAMP #89 NEWSLETTER

MARCH 1, 2015

Update on Camp Members:  Brother Chip Dillon and Sister Linda Erb continue their recovery from surgeries. Brother Sinal has progressed to moving with a walker and seems to be gaining strength and mobility.  Brothers Don Wesner and Duane Harer have both recently been knocked down with the flu but I hear both are getting better. Keep them in your prayers.

The 2015 Camp Calendar is now complete and is an attachment to the email that this newsletter comes along with. The Calendar is a working document.  The first event for 2015 is presentations at Hearthside Living Facility in State College on Saturday March 14h at 2:00.  Right now Brother Chuck Campbell and I are planning to give 10 minute talks and I would like two more presenters. Civil War subject of your choice.  Period attire is optional but desired. You are welcome and encouraged to attend even if not speaking.

The next Camp meeting is Wednesday, March 11 at 7:00 at the BELLWOOD-ANTIS LIBRARY in Bellwood Pa. Meetings move to the second Wednesday of the month.  The camp name and official location (Tyrone) remain unchanged. The library in Bellwood is located on Main Street across from the post office. From  I-99 take exit 41.  Bear right on to 865N. Continue straight at light past Sheetz, continue about three-quarters of a mile. Just past E. 3rd Street bear right to underpass. Turn left on to Main Street. Library is on your right about quarter mile. Enter far right door to conference room.

This month’s meeting must determine if and where a bus trip will be done in June.  Ideas proposed so far are (1) Kernstown Battlefield in Winchester and Arlington National Cemetery (2) Soldiers Hall and the Espy GAR Hall in Pittsburgh. Bring other ideas to the table. The trip cannot exceed 12 hours in length or we will need to pay for a second driver.

CAMP ORDER NUMBER 1 - 2015:  Dues for the Sons need to be paid to Brother Dan Sinal by the end of March. We must forward to State/National (their share)

by April 15th.  Dues remain $45.00 payable to “Col Crowther Camp #89- 2015 dues”. Bring check to March 11th meeting or mail to Brother Dan at :    PO Box 282 Martinsburg, Pa. 16662. Again, deadline is March 31st.

We have a prospective new camp member from State College who we will review for Sons eligibility at our March 11

The Camp Secretary will be updating information on the camp roster. With this email is attached copy of the May 2014 roster update with some adjustments already noted. Please review your respective information and inform the Commander of needed changes by March 22.  If you have both a home and cell phone and want both listed please provide them.  The updated Roster will be put out April 2.

The issue of finding a copy of the Camp By-Laws is resolved. It seems that the newly formed camps in 2009-2010 did not a receive copy of their approved/signed By-Laws.   Department Commander McMillin has forwarded a ‘standard’ set for us with his signature to go to the IRS for the non-profit application. I am sending Commander McMillin copy of our actual By-Laws for him to sign and to return copy to us. We know our By-Laws were submitted and reviewed/approved  at State level in 2009 as it was a checklist item in order for the Camp to obtain a charter.

Belated Birthday wishes for February: Brothers Don Crider, Chip Dillon and Scott Schul. Birthdays for March are Brothers Paul Hileman and Doak Marasco!

You shall also find as attachment the anticipated Camp Monthly Meeting dates for 2015.

In Fraternity, Loyalty and Charity,

John B. Crider Camp Commander
